Limnological Study: Inland Surface Water and Ecosystem Issues

This course is to provide the students theoretical approach on the field of limnology which emphasized the lake and its environment. The main frame is based on multiple perspectives like the fundamental background of limnology, the interaction between surface water and groundwater within the lake area, lake water pollution and water quality aspects, lake eutrophication processes that affect the ecosystem issues which are related to human activities. In this course, theoretical background and case study combination will be presented. The aim of this study is to provide the importance of lake water issues from the limnological perspectives with examples which will be contributed to the future conservation of water resources in Myanmar.

Undergraduate and graduated students from the Natural Science and Social Science

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completion of this course, students will be able to understand:

• the comprehensive fundamental knowledge about limnological studies which emphasise on lake water and its environment
• the role of groundwater is important for karst topography around the lake environment area which interacts with surface water
• causes and effects of lake pollution and how to conserve the lakes
• the aspects of lake water quality which influence the ecosystem of the lake and
• the issues of human impacts on the lake based on these facts and knowledge

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR

The course will be delivered by professors/experts from Myanmar universities who have specialized backgrounds and practice in the fields of Social and Environmental Science.
