International Water Centre
The International Water Centre (IWC) was established in 2005 with a visionary goal: to leverage the expertise of the world’s foremost water professionals to address complex water challenges through education, empowerment, and innovation.
As a key player in the global water sector, the IWC serves as a vital connector, fostering relationships among Australian and international academics, researchers, and practitioners to advance integrated water management approaches. Through a range of strategies including education programs, training courses, capacity building projects, and applied research initiatives, the IWC aims to develop the capabilities, skills, and knowledge of individuals, communities, and organizations worldwide.
The IWC specializes in six core areas of expertise:
- Healthy and productive catchments
- Integrated water governance
- Water financing
- Water leadership
- Water-resilient communities
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in the water cycle
Central to the IWC’s success is its commitment to collaboration across institutional boundaries, drawing on a global network of over 170 partners and associates. By engaging with leaders from local communities, governments, industry, and non-governmental organizations, the IWC seeks to design solutions that address both current and future water management challenges. Since its inception, the IWC has made a significant impact, benefiting over a thousand water professionals from eighty-six countries through its education and training programs. Additionally, the organization has delivered custom training programs for organizations worldwide and implemented capability development and applied research projects across six world regions.
Supported by four leading Australian universities and the Queensland State Government, the IWC is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. United by a shared sense of community, multidisciplinary approaches, ethical values, and a commitment to building capacity in the water sector and beyond, the IWC continues to strive towards innovative solutions and impactful change in the global water landscape.
